The abertis foundation has been working for years in the research field. We believe that research is one of the most important contributions we can make to sustainability, on the understanding that study is a necessary first step towards taking action to improve our surroundings.

Research and dissemination of the knowledge so gained are the focus of most of our efforts. Since our foundation was set up, the work promoted by us has revolved around the environment, demographics and economics, aspects of our territory which are affected by the repercussions of major infrastructures.

Our organisation is the successor to the Castellet de Foix Foundation, set up in 1999. From 2003 onwards it was known as abertis foundation, so taking the name of the leading corporation in communications and transport infrastructure management, its backer. The fact that we depend on a corporation devoted to mobility has led us also to take an interest in road safety.

Over time the foundation has consolidated its position as an instrument of corporate social responsibility for abertis, and has acted as a means of integrating the corporation's different business units. The abertis foundation has also become a fine example of how enriching knowledge transfer between business and universities can be.
